I am a survivor of childhood cancer and have become an ambassador for my hospital, Cohen’s. I always wanted to give back to the community who cared for me and my family, so I started working with them on initiatives to raise hospital funds, awareness, and volunteering support. I realized that with what I’m doing, I could make greater change. That is why I started YouthCare Initiative. I plan on working with multiple pediatric facilities across lower Long Island (where I live) and make care boxes full of crafts for patients during holidays. One major issue now is that Child Life Specialists (workers who work to support pediatric patients emotionally) need support themselves. By creating these careboxes, we are adding to the level of care CLS already gives. My initiative is already partnered with Cohen’s and will officially start (create, deliver, and distribute care boxes) during the school year.
